WEST FARGO, N.D. -- The bodies of an adult man and woman were found in a home here early Sunday morning, according to police.

At 12:08 a.m. Sunday, officers with the West Fargo Police Department were dispatched for a welfare check on a woman at a home in the 1000 block of Parkway Lane.

According to a written statement released by West Fargo Police Chief Mike Reitan, officers outside the home saw a man and woman dead in the lower level of the home. Both were found to have suffered gunshot wounds. Police say the two people were acquainted.

Police believe that the incident was likely a murder-suicide, but investigation continues and no more information would be released until Monday, Reitan said in his written statement.

The bodies of the man and woman were sent to Grand Forks for autopsy. Their identities have not yet been released.

A phone message left for Chief Reitan seeking more details about where and how the incident happened was not returned.

The neighborhood where the incident occurred was quiet Sunday afternoon and there was nothing obvious, like police tape or official vehicles, to indicate which home was involved in the shooting incident.

Parkway Lane is located in southwest West Fargo near 9th St. and 38th Avenue West, just southeast of Rendezvous Park.

Homicides are a rare occurrence in West Fargo.

Police officer Miles Orth, who has been with the West Fargo Police Department 13 years, said Sunday he could not remember any murders occurring during his time with the department.
