BRIARWOOD, N.D. (AP) -- The Cass County town of Briarwood is not allowing three flood-buyout homes to be moved because of potential damage to trees and roads.
Donavon Mau, who paid $7,000 for one of the homes and planned to move it to Hillsboro, says he wouldn't have bid on the house had he known that.
Mayor John Adams says auction officials were aware the city wasn't going to issue permits and he doesn't know why anyone is surprised.
County Engineer Keith Berndt says if the Briarwood homes can't be moved, the county would have to refund 90 percent of the auction proceeds and pay extra to demolish the homes.
The county's buyout committee planned to meet Thursday to discuss the situation.
