THOMPSON, N.D. (AP) -- Traffic over the Thompson Bridge over the Red River south of Grand Forks will be detoured for about three weeks beginning Tuesday.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that the detour is necessary to allow a contractor to switch roads from the old bridge to a new $7.3 million bridge that is opening.
The Thompson Bridge route is a popular shortcut between south Grand Forks and Crookston, Minn. It carries about 1,110 vehicles a day.
Polk County, Minn., Highway Engineer Richard Sanders said the detour that will be in place is about 24 miles. He figures most drivers will travel through Grand Forks instead.
