Wednesday night marks the 17th annual National Buffalo Museum Banquet and Auction. This year the event will be held at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Income for the National Buffalo Museum comes in four forms: museum admissions, memberships, the gift shop and this fundraiser, said Felicia Sargeant, manager of the National Buffalo Museum. It is the only fundraising event the museum has each year.

"The National Buffalo Museum is a nonprofit, educational organization dedicated to the cultural and natural history of bison and the prairie," Sargeant said.

The funds raised help maintain the live bison herd and keep the museum open, she said.

Sargeant expects around 600 people to the casual fundraiser and has a few $35 seats left. That includes an all inclusive bison prime rib dinner, and specialty beer and wine.

This year's theme is Las Vegas and Sargeant said show girls will be at the event.

There will also be six raffle prizes, 20 items for a silent auction and 50 items for a live auction.

She said there are a wide variety of items, and not all items are buffalo related. Items up for auction include a pheasant hunt, a catered dinner for eight, guns with carvings and other custom pieces.

Nine Miss Rodeo representatives will also help at the event by selling raffle tickets.

"It's the best meal in town for a fundraiser and a cheap price on the ticket," Sargeant said.

Tickets can be purchased until 4 p.m. Wednesday at the National Buffalo Museum, or by calling 252-8648. If available after 4 p.m. tickets can be purchased at the Civic Center.
