BURLINGTON, N.D. (AP) -- Residents in the Burlington area are finally getting water through the Northwest Area Water Supply project.

The city of Minot is providing water through NAWS to the West River Water and Sewer District until the project starts distributing Missouri River water to northwest North Dakota.

West River serves about 170 users and the Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch. It had been receiving its water supply through Burlington. Burlington is scheduled to begin receiving water through NAWS early next month.

NAWS construction is ongoing but actual treatment and delivery of river water is being held up because of lawsuits by the Canadian province of Manitoba and the state of Missouri.
