Canvassing Board accepts 20 ballots

JSSP Government Events

The Stutsman County Canvassing Board accepted 20 of the 61 ballots presented to it for consideration Monday.

The accepted ballots included 11 absentee ballots with missing or questioned signatures where the voter had confirmed the signature to the Stutsman County Auditor's Office last week.

The board also accepted four ballots that had arrived after Election Day but had been postmarked prior to the election including one ballot mailed from a foreign country.

There were 21 ballots set aside at the polling place because the voter did not present proper identification. Five of the ballots were accepted because the voter produced an identification later for election officials with the other 16 ballots rejected.

The additional 20 votes were added to the unofficial tally from election night but were not enough to change the outcome in any of the races.
