FARGO (AP) -- The administrator of North Dakota's most populous county faces a drunken driving charge.

Cass County Administrator Keith Berndt was cited over the Labor Day weekend near his family lake cabin in Minnesota's Otter Tail County. Berndt told The Forum newspaper that it was "a serious lapse of judgment on my part" and that he regrets making "a very bad choice."

Court documents show that Berndt's wife, Carol, called authorities to report her husband was driving drunk. The 50-year-old Berndt has pleaded not guilty. He is due in court Nov. 29.
