Catholic diocese investigating allegations of inappropriate conduct by Jamestown priest
The Rev. Neil Pfeifer has been removed from ministry at 3 Jamestown area churches pending the outcome of the investigation.
JAMESTOWN — A priest at St. James Basilica here is under investigation for allegations of inappropriate conduct with adults, according to the Diocese of Fargo.
Bishop John Folda said the Rev. Neil Pfeifer has been removed from ministry as pastor of St. James Basilica in Jamestown, St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Church in Buchanan and St. Mathias Catholic Church in Windsor, pending the outcome of the investigation.
“I take all such allegations seriously,” Folda said in a statement issued Saturday evening, Jan. 14.
The diocese received allegations of inappropriate conduct with adults, Folda said. He said the allegations do not involve minors.
“Please pray for all involved in this situation,” he said.
Pfeifer came to St. James Basilica after the death of Monsignor Jeffrey Wald in October 2020.
People with specific information or concerns regarding Pfeifer’s interactions with themselves or others are asked to contact Monsignor Joseph Goering at the Diocese of Fargo (701-356-7945) or the diocese’s victim assistance coordinator at VictimAssistance@fargodiocese.org.
