Service was restored around 4:20 p.m. Friday for CenturyLink phone and broadband service customers in Jamestown and Valley City.
Rachel Woodman, marketing development manager for CenturyLink, said that a third-party construction crew caused the damage to the company's fiber-optic cable early Friday afternoon. She said the location of the disruption was somewhere between Jamestown and Fargo.
"The total extent of impact is still under investigation," she said. "Our technicians worked quickly to fix the cut and we apologize to those impacted by the outage.”
Stutsman County Emergency Manager Jerry Bergquist said 911 calls from other phone providers were not affected. He said only CenturyLink landline phone customers were not able to call 911 during the outage.
During the outage the administrative line to the Stutsman County Communications Center was inoperable, but was working once service was restored.
