GRAND FORKS (AP) -- A judge has dismissed misdemeanor charges against a University of North Dakota hockey player accused of aiding the escape of two teammates who were being held in a police car.
Northeast Central District Judge Joel Medd ruled after an hour-long trial Friday that the underage hockey players were not attempting an escape, but just talking with Robbie Bina.
Bina, 24, was charged with escape from custody after the Jan. 28 incident at a local bar.
Two of his teammates, T.J. Oshie, 20, and Jonathan Toews, who was 18 at the time and now is 19, in April pleaded guilty to being minors in a bar. Both were placed on probation and ordered to perform community service.
All three of the players issued public apologies.

Bina testified Friday that during the Jan. 28 incident he was telling Oshie and Toews to contact UND hockey coach Dave Hakstol right away to tell him what happened. Oshie testified Friday that he was not trying to escape.
