ABERDEEN, S.D. — A New Jersey man is facing wire fraud charges in connection to alleged fraudulent activity involving the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate, according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.

Mark Johnson, 58, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., has been charged with wire fraud. Johnson made his initial appearance in federal court in New Jersey on May 3. His initial appearance in federal court in South Dakota has yet to be scheduled, Aberdeen American News reported.

According to court documents, Johnson, who was doing business as Atlantic Power & Equipment LLC, is accused of submitting a $149,600 bid to Dakota National Gaming Enterprise for the purchase of refurbished lawn maintenance equipment for Dakota Magic Casino. The operation of the casino is overseen by Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Tribal Council, which approved the purchase.

According to court documents, payment was made for the equipment in March 2014, but the equipment was not delivered.
