White powder in package delivered to Human Service Center

The Jamestown Police Department responded to the South Central Human Service Center Tuesday afternoon after a package with a white powder substance was opened at the center.

Jamestown Chief of Police Scott Edinger said the package was secured by police officers around 5 p.m. Tuesday and taken to the Stutsman County Law Enforcement Center.

At around 7:19 p.m. Tuesday all members of the Jamestown Fire Department were dispatched to the fire station for a hazardous material response. Edinger said the fire department is the city’s hazardous material response team. Hazardous material team members were at the Law Enforcement Center Tuesday night to handle the package.

Edinger said the package will be delivered to a facility so the substance can be tested. He said he couldn’t say to which facility the package would be delivered.This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
