Former North Dakota solicitor general picked for judgeship
BISMARCK -- Gov. Doug Burgum has named former North Dakota Solicitor General Doug Bahr to fill retired South Central District Judge Sonna Anderson's judgeship.
His appointment is effective Sept. 1, according to a release from Burgum's office. Anderson retired June 30, citing health reasons.
Bahr's career includes 25 years in the North Dakota Attorney General's Office, as an assistant attorney general for seven years and solicitor general from 1999 to 2016.
He was among three finalists forwarded to Burgum by the state Judicial Nominating Committee, which in July interviewed six applicants for Anderson's judgeship.
North Dakota's South Central Judicial District is comprised of nine counties, including Burleigh and Morton. The district has nine judgeships. Three are up for election this year, all with unopposed candidates.
