Surviving a gunshot wound to head, man calls 911 from Grand Forks park

GRAND FORKS -- A man allegedly shot himself in the head and called 911 from a picnic area of a Grand Forks park Friday afternoon, Sept. 7.

Officers were called to Riverside Park for a self-inflicted shooting shortly after 1:30 p.m.

Grand Forks Police Sgt. Travis Benson said the man, whose name has not been released, called 911 himself. The man was still alive when police arrived and was transported to the hospital.

Benson said to his knowledge no one else was around the park when the shooting occurred.
