STURGIS, S.D. — Authorities have identified the man who died Monday, Aug. 5, in a motorcycle crash 12 miles south of Lead.

Brandon Anderson, of Norman, Okla., remained the only fatality in the 61 total crashes that took place during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally as of 6 a.m. Thursday, according to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene at 3:03 p.m. Monday after he failed to negotiate a turn on North Rochford Road and was thrown from his motorcycle.

Five additional injury crashes occurred in and around Sturgis between 6 a.m. Wednesday and 6 a.m. Thursday. One of those crashes, which took place at 2:05 a.m. Thursday, 2 miles southwest of Sturgis, involved a Sturgis police officer, who lost control of his motorcycle while in pursuit of another person on a motorcycle. The officer, who was wearing a helmet, sustained serious, injuries that were not life-threatening injuries.
