Jamestown man arrested in alleged machete incident

A Jamestown man is in custody facing multiple charges after an incident in the 1000 block of Western Park Village Friday evening, according to the Jamestown Police Department..

Ricardo Vasquez, 26, faces charges of felony terrorizing, simple assault domestic, reckless endangerment, carrying a concealed weapon, disorderly conduct and preventing arrest.

Officers of the Jamestown Police Department were dispatched to the scene at about 8:30 p.m. after numerous reports of a disturbance between a male and female in the street. Callers reported they heard a loud boom and saw the back window of a car smashed, its tires slashed and a male individual with a machete attempting to drive the car from the scene..

Officers made contact with the individual at 1800 block of 9th Avenue Southwest. As officers approached, Vasquez exited the vehicle “brandishing the machete in a hostile manner,” according to the news release.

Vasquez did not comply with commands from the officers who used a 12-gauge bean bag round to subdue him. He was taken into custody with minimal injury and transported to the Stutsman County Correctional Center.

The incident remains under investigation and additional charges may be filed.
