A 29-year-old man suffered nonlife-threatening injuries after being stabbed in the Walmart parking lot at approximately 8:33 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12 in Jamestown and a suspect was later arrested, the Jamestown Police Department said.

The victim was approached by a man and a brief exchange of words followed before the male suspect grabbed the victim from behind and around his shoulders, stabbing him in the upper neck and chin area with a knife, according to Maj. Justin Blinsky, assistant chief of police for the Jamestown Police Department.

JPD reported the two men were acquaintances; however, Sarah Smith, who identified the victim as her husband, Steven Shake, told The Jamestown Sun in a Facebook message they did not know the suspect but were acquainted with his wife.

The suspect fled the scene while the victim received medical attention in the parking lot. JPD later identified the suspect as Roylan Laureta, 54, who was arrested at approximately 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 13, in Logan County, with the assistance of the Logan County Sheriff's Office and Napoleon Police Department.

Laureta was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault and is being held in the Stutsman County Correctional Center awaiting formal charges, Blinsky said.
