The Jamestown Police Department reported Tuesday, Feb. 25, that the Stutsman County Dispatch received a call at about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday about a possible kidnapping at the Jamestown Walmart. The complainant, a man who was calling from Bismarck, reported his daughter had just been kidnapped and he was on the phone with the abductor. The man could hear a female screaming in the background and the abductor was requesting money to get his daughter back.
After further investigation, and with help from the Bismarck Police Department, it was determined the call was a scam to extort money, JPD said. The man's daughter was contacted and determined to be OK and was not the female on the phone screaming. The man had a medical emergency and had to be taken to the hospital because of the incident.
Anyone who receives a call like this is asked to report it to the local law enforcement.
