FARGO (AP) -- The deadline has passed for submitting claims in a federal class action lawsuit against the city of Fargo over traffic fines.
Notices were sent to drivers letting them know they were eligible for part of the $1.5 million settlement. Monday was the deadline to submit a claim.
City attorney Erik Johnson said the 12,000 claims were a little more than is typical in a lawsuit of that type.
Those filing claims will get 65 cents on every dollar of traffic fines they paid that exceeded limits set by state law. Individual payouts are still being determined.
The lawsuit alleged the city illegally assessed higher fines than state law allows.
