Jan Barnes led the June 8 Kiwanis meeting attended by 26 members and one guest at the Quality Inn & Suites. Don Caine led group singing accompanied by Sharon Caine. Mitch Brecto collected “Happy Dollars” for Camp Rokiwan at Spiritwood Lake.
Nellie Degen was inducted as a new club member. Degen is married and has lived in Jamestown for the last 20 years. She was a member of Kiwanis in California where she was the first female inducted into the local club where she lived.
Alissa Hanson introduced guest speaker Rosemary McDougall of the Wednesday Club, which is the oldest women’s club in the area. Its history dates back to 1896 with six women who had a joy of learning new things. With a mission of “mutual mental improvement,” a club member would be assigned a topic and would report back to the group.
Today the Wednesday Club meets the first Wednesday of each month from October through May. It owns a building on 3rd Street Southwest where the group has an apartment and meeting space for rent. The Women’s Clubroom is available any day of the week for $20 for a morning and $20 for an afternoon. For more information, call 252-2554.
Kiwanis club members are encouraged to bring food items to donate to the local food pantry as both the Salvation Army and Community Action are in desparate need to provide for the community.
Member Amanda Thrift will introduce the speaker at the noon luncheon June 22 Kiwanis meeting at the Quality Inn & Suites.
The 45 members of Jamestown Kiwanis meet each Monday at noon. They welcome new members to join the club whose mission is to improve the world one child and one community at a time. For more information, visit www.Facebook.com/JamestownKiwanis , email JamestownKiwanis@gmail.com , or call Katie Ryan-Anderson at 251-8888.
