Dickinson State football team's bus involved in I-94 crash

The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol, who noted in their accident report that weather conditions were windy with blowing snow and road conditions were ice covered.

DICKINSON, N.D. — A Dickinson State University bus, carrying the football team and staff, was involved in a crash on I-94 near Crystal Springs, North Dakota, Friday morning, Nov. 12.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, Miguel Gascal, 64, of Mesquite, Nevada, was traveling at about 9:35 a.m. with passenger Amalia Vasquez, 62, of Michoacan, Mexico, in a 2006 Lincoln Navigator when Gascal lost control of his vehicle on an icy bridge. Gascal's vehicle entered the median before turning back onto the eastbound lane.

The vehicle was struck by a 2011 Van Hool T2145 bus, operated by Harlow's School Bus Service and driven by Terrence Johnson, 65, of Belfield, North Dakota. Both vehicles came to rest in the south ditch.

Gascal and Vasquez were injured in the crash, according to Highway Patrol. Both were wearing seat belts.

The passengers of the bus, the Dickinson State University football team and staff, were not injured.
