DICKINSON (AP) -- One of Dickinson State University's top wrestlers faces a drunken driving charge after rolling his pickup on a gravel road near Spearfish, S.D., the South Dakota Highway Patrol says.
Shane Bennett, 20, suffered a broken jaw and cracked shoulder blade in the June 28 accident. He was released from a Rapid City, S.D., hospital on Friday, a spokeswoman said Saturday. Bennett, a native of Belle Fourche, S.D., had been working at a wrestling camp at Whitewood.
Michael Bock, a South Dakota Highway Patrol trooper, said Bennett was cited for drunken driving after the accident.
An investigation concluded he was driving about 60 mph in a 35 mph zone, and Bennett was not wearing his seat belt, Bock said. Two passengers in his truck who were wearing belts were not injured.
Bennett, wrestling at 165 pounds, finished second in the NAIA national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, in March. He lost to defending champion Jake Dieffenbach, of Lindenwood, Mo. , 9-8. Bennett finished his season with a 28-8 record.
