As part of an ongoing project, the city of Jamestown and Stutsman County Emergency Management/911 are working to complete a digital map of the city. In order to complete the project, every roadway in the city will be driven to verify street names, address block ranges and assigned address numbers. Individuals from Stutsman County Emergency Management/911 will be slowly driving each city street in a marked vehicle completing the verification process which will continue for the next few weeks.
City ordinance requires homes and businesses to post address numbers in a conspicuous location on each structure so as to be plainly readable from the street or avenue. Homes and businesses not posting address numbers will be identified during this process with that information provided to the city. Those people with homes or businesses that do not have a number posted are encouraged to do so at this time. City Hall can be contacted at 252-5900 for more information regarding the correct way to post address numbers.
Jerry Bergquist, Stutsman County emergency manager, said the completion of the city map will conclude the digital mapping project for all of Stutsman County. Once the map is completed, the location of a 911 call, initiated from either a land-line or cellular phone, will automatically be identified on the map. Dispatch software will then determine the route for emergency response vehicles to get to that location. This routing capability already exists in all other areas of Stutsman County, Bergquist said.
