Four varieties of dog food, recalled by a Georgia manufacturer for possible botulism contamination, are registered in North Dakota and are possibly available at retail outlets in the state.
"Dog owners should check to see it they have any of four varieties of Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance Eatables for Dogs," said Agriculture Commissioner Roger Johnson. "They should not feed these?pet foods to their animals, but properly dispose of the cans."
The four varieties are Hobo Chili with Chicken and Pasta; Chinese Take-Out w/Sauce with Vegetables & Chicken; Irish Stew with Beef, Potatoes and Carrots, and Southern Style Dumplin's with Gravy with Chicken and Vegetables.
The dog food is among the 90 products, including chili sauce, canned chili, beef stew, corned beef hash and other meat products, recalled by Castleberry's Food Co., Augusta, Ga.
According to Castleberry's, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recommends that the containers be double bagged in plastic bags that are tightly closed before being placed in a trash receptacle for non-recyclable trash outside of the home. Additional instructions for safe disposal can be found at www.cdc.gov/botulism/botulism_faq.htm .

Four people -- two in Indiana and two in Texas -- have been hospitalized with botulism, a muscle-paralyzing illness caused by a toxin made by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. In both cases, Castleberry's products were found in the victim's homes.
