Early Election Day voter turnout was characterized as steady and good by Linda Chadduck, deputy auditor for Stutsman County and poll worker at the central polling location.
Chadduck said as of 8:30 a.m. about 260 people had cast ballots at that location.
At the courthouse ballot processing for absentee ballots was under way.
"We had about 300 absentee ballots cast and about 1,000 early voters at the courthouse," said Noel Johnson, chief operating officer for Stutsman County and election administrator.
Johnson expects a total of about 3,500 total votes to be cast in the primary election.

"That would be about normal for a non-presidential primary," he said.
Polls are open until 7 p.m. at the Civic Center for all Stutsman County residents and at Pingree, Kensal and Medina for rural residents in those precincts.
