Drive continues for shoes for Dollars for Scholars

Jamestown Area Childcare Services held a March Madness Shoe Drive Collection from March 1-15 to assist the Jamestown Dollars for Scholars Shoe Drive efforts. The Jamestown Dollars for Scholars Shoe Drive collected 1,750 pairs of shoes as of March 19. The goal is to collect 7,500 pairs.

Jamestown students, volunteers and Dollars for Scholars board members counted the shoes, and there are more shoes to be counted and bagged. Shoes can range from infant to adult size. All styles of shoes are accepted from tennis shoes to cowboy boots, flip flops, sandals, football cleats, snow boots and high heels in new to gently used condition.

Dollars for Scholars representatives said they are confident the goal can be reached with the continued support of Jamestown and the surrounding communities.

The shoes will be shipped to Third World countries. Dollars for Scholars will be paid for the number of pounds of shoes donated. These funds will be used to provide scholarships to Jamestown High School seniors.

Also, Jamestown Area Childcare Services held a March Madness Shoe Drive Collection from March 1-15 to assist the Jamestown Dollars for Scholars Shoe Drive efforts. Participating child care providers and their families collected and counted shoes ranging from infant to adult size. The JACCS March Madness effort collected 227 pairs of shoes.

Currently, there are 29 drop-off sites in the Jamestown area. Sites include: Agri-Cover, Anne Carlsen Center, Bank Forward, Collins Aerospace, Dacotah Bank, Diversified Wealth Management, Edgeley Public School, Edgewood Living Center, Episcopal Church, First United Methodist Church, Gussner Elementary, I Will Fitness, Interstate Engineering, Jamestown High School, Jamestown Middle School, Legacy Fitness, Lincoln Elementary, Louis L’Amour Elementary, R.M. Stoudt, Roosevelt Elementary School, RSVP Dakota Store/AAUW Bookstore, James River Senior Center, Solid Foundations Growing Center, North Dakota Farmers Union State Headquarters, Two Rivers Activity Center, Trinity Lutheran Church, Unison Bank, University of Jamestown and Washington Elementary.
