Students from St. John's Academy had the opportunity to demonstrate their writing skills and gain a valuable personal and academic experience. All fifth- and sixth-grade students at St. John's Academy took part in a creative writing contest sponsored by Modern Woodmen of America, a national provider of fraternal financial services and programs.

Students composed essays on this year's topic, "My Imaginary Invention." Creative writing requires students to be imaginative and demonstrate their English skills.

Winners chosen for this year's essay contest are MacKenzie Gerszewski, first place; Taylor Thielges, second place; and Rebekah Horgan, third place. They received trophies for their achievements and their names will be engraved on the school's Modern Woodmen Creative Writing Essay Contest plaque. All participants received ribbons for their hard work.

The Creative Writing Essay Contest is one of six free Youth Educational Programs Modern Woodmen offers to schools nationwide.

The contest benefits thousands of young writers across the United States each year.
