FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- Young peregrine falcons in Fargo are getting banded.

Officials with the Minnesota Raptor Center were to be in Fargo on Friday to band the young birds born in a nesting box atop a downtown bank.

The falcons hatched in late May. Officials say banding them will make it possible to study such things as migration patterns and reproductive success.

Falcon pairs have taken up residence in the bank nesting box since 2000. To date, 25 young have hatched at the site.

Midwest peregrine numbers have been increasing since efforts to restore them began in the early 1980s. Peregrines and other raptors were devastated by pesticides years ago.
