Firefighters from the Jamestown Fire Department were on the scene of a house fire at 1311 Sixth Avenue N.E. for about three hours Friday. The blaze caused extensive damage to the home before being controlled at about 1:20 p.m.

"When we arrived at the scene the home was fully involved," said Jerry Kainz, deputy chief of the Jamestown Fire Department. "The initial attack was with the pumper deck gun until the firefighters could get their gear on."

Kainz said the initial firefighting efforts centered on controlling the fire around the garage and deck of the home. Once they entered the home they found extensive fire damage throughout the interior of the structure.

The house had been home to owners John and Linda Griffith before the fire. They could not be reached for comment.

No one was home at the residence at the time of the fire and no one was injured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
