The Jamestown Fire Department responded to two reports of fires over the holiday, said Jim Reuther, fire chief.
A Christmas Eve fire damaged a garage.
The fire was reported at 11:21 a.m. Dec. 24 at 435 7th St. SW. The fire was contained to a detached garage at the address. Reuther said five units and 16 firefighters responded and the department was at the scene for about 2 ½ hours.
No one was home at the time of the blaze; the property owner was contacted, Reuther said. The cause hasn’t been determined, he said.
“In my opinion, it’s a complete total loss,” he said.
On Christmas Day, the department responded to a fire reported at 1:13 p.m. at apartment 16 in an apartment building at 734 11th St. NE.
Reuther said the occupants extinguished the fire, believed to be related to cooking, before firefighters arrived. He said firefighters extracted smoke from the building and were on the scene no more than 30 minutes.
No injuries were reported in either fire, he said.
