WEST FARGO — A man hospitalized after a garage fire at a West Fargo mobile home park Wednesday afternoon, March 25, threatened to shoot officers and could face charges in connection to the blaze, police said.
At about 3:40 p.m., emergency responders were dispatched to a report of a fire at 108 C St. Firefighters arrived to find a fire that had broken out in an unattached garage next to a home.
West Fargo assistant police chief Jerry Boyer said a man inside the burning garage threatened to shoot officers when they approached him. The officers feared for the man’s safety and entered the garage to save him.
Neighbors said they could see a man getting dragged out of the garage by police. The same man was taken to the hospital and will be charged in connection to the fire, Boyer said.
Boyer said police believe the fire was started intentionally and that authorities do not believe the man lived at the home. Crews quickly had the fire under control, though the extent of damage was not immediately clear Wednesday night.
One person was inside the residence at the time of the fire and was moved by officers to safety. The West Fargo Fire Department reported that two police officers were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and a third officer was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation and released.
