The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a fire call at a home at 1735 5 1/2 Ave. NE on Tuesday, May 19.

Lt. Larry Hust said the call came in at 4:35 p.m. and four units with 24 firefighters were at the scene of the ranch-style home. He said a fire was reported in the basement that the occupant had tried to put out, but the fire flared up again and firefighters extinguished it. There was a lot of smoke damage, Hust said.

The Fire Department left the scene at 5:50 p.m., Hust said. There were no injuries and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Hust said.
