Another former Jamestown College standout is getting a shot in professional baseball.

Josh Shaw, a pitcher from the Jimmies from 2002-2005 has signed a contract with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the Northern League.

Shaw, who is among the school leaders in virtually every pitching category, joins former Jamestown High School standout Jason Schutt with the RedHawks.

Shaw had been pitching for the Jamestown Merchants amateur baseball team.

"We're really excired that one our our own players got an opportunity to play for the RedHawks," said Jimmies baseball coach Tom Hager. "Hopefully, he will make the most of it."

Shaw, a Great Falls, Mont., native, holds the JC single-season record for strikeouts (73) and innings pitched (76), both coming in 2004 when he won nine games and was a key cog in the Jimmies' run to the NAIA World Series. He posted a career-best 3.03 earned run average is 2005. His 2004 season came when the Dakota Athletic Conference was still using aluminum bats.

His first outing for the RedHawks was a rough one. Shaw pitched in relief during Saturday's 16-4 loss to Joliet. He pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk. Wahpeton native Mike Peschel (5-3) started and took the loss.
