City, county to make Regional Council decisions
Decisions regarding dues payments from Stutsman County and the city of Jamestown to South Central Dakota Regional Council may bypass the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corp. in the future.
The Jamestown Finance & Legal Committee approved a resolution to that effect Tuesday. The Stutsman County Commission must concur for the resolution to take effect.
Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich said decisions regarding the dues were transferred to the JSDC in 2006 when it was decided to use economic development funds to pay the dues.
The JSDC has in the past made recommendations to the City Council and County Commission on whether to pay the dues or not.
The Stutsman County Commission recently raised questions about the sustainability of the Regional Council. The JSDC also withheld some of the dues after the Regional Council ceased to operate a Small Business Development Center.
In other business, the Jamestown Finance and Legal Committee renewed the lease of the National Buffalo Museum but tabled a lease requested by Otter Tail Power Co. to construct a solar photovoltaic energy generating facility on the grounds of the museum pending more information.
