Burgum issues prayer proclamation

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum issued a prayer proclamation Friday, as a way for citizens to provide spiritual and emotional support to communities affected by the spring flooding around the state.

Burgum declared Sunday, April 6 as Spring Flooding Day of Prayer. Residents are encouraged to offer an expression of faith, whether alone or with others in fellowship and solidarity. Prayer is consistent with the tradition of North Dakotans acting as good neighbors who provide relief during times of disaster, the proclamation said.

Spring flooding and the devastation it many bring has the ability to profoundly affect the livelihoods and living conditions of North Dakota residents, the proclamation said. People in neighboring states have also been affected and the concern grows each day as more winter snow melts and contribute to the rising waters around the state.
