Planning Commission recommends downtown parking changes

The Jamestown Planning Commission recommended to the City Council approving amendments to four ordinances to waive the requirement for businesses to have off-street parking in the downtown area.

Dave Hillerud, chairman of the Planning Commission, said at the group's meeting Monday that the current ordinances are not always enforced and are a detriment to development in the area.

A series of four ordinance changes would exempt businesses in a five-by-five-block area north of 4th Street South from the requirement that they furnish off-street parking. The ordinance changes now go the Jamestown City Council for review, possibly at the May 6 meeting.

The Planning Commission gave preliminary and final approval to the Hope Apostolic Addition at 424 4th Ave. NE. The addition combines five lots to allow for the construction of a church on the property.

The Planning Commission also gave preliminary and final approval to Noah's Park View Addition at 1912 10th St. SW. This addition combines two lots to allow the construction of a single family home.

Preliminary approval of the UPS Jamestown Addition was approved. The addition combines two lots at 2610 3rd Ave. SW for a commercial development. Final approval will be made at the May 13 Planning Commission meeting.
