Combined water releases from the Jamestown and Pipestem dams are expected to increase to 2,400 cubic feet per second, according to the city engineer's office. In response to the planned releases, the city of Jamestown is sandbagging and planning to place sandbag levees as early as Friday, Oct. 18.
The sandbagging operation began today in the Jamestown Civic Center parking lot. The placement of sandbags is expected to be complete as early by Tuesday, Oct. 22.
The city of Jamestown, Stutsman County, the city of LaMoure and LaMoure county have all declared flood emergencies due to the increased water releases.
