The Jamestown City Council, meeting in executive session with representatives of Jamestown Parks and Recreation Department, the Jamestown Public School District and Stutsman County, named a negotiating team to meet with representatives of the Eagle Flats project concerning a planned payment in lieu of taxes.

The Eagle Flats project would include tearing down the vacant former Eagles building in downtown Jamestown and replacing it with a 33 unit low- to moderate-income housing project. The payment in lieu of taxes would set a payment the project developer would pay rather than the calculated property taxes on the project building.

Named to the negotiation team were Steve Brubakken, city councilman, Doug Hogan, director of Jamestown Parks and Recreation, Rob Lech, superintendent of Jamestown Public Schools, and Nicole Melland, chief operating officer of Stutsman County.

A public hearing is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Thursday for comments concerning the project with a special City Council meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday for a possible decision regarding the payment in lieu of taxes tax incentive.
