Stutsman County has filled two positions in the Emergency Management department, according to Jerry Bergquist, current Stutsman County emergency manager and 911 coordinator.
Bergquist told the Stutsman County commission Tuesday that Andrew Kirking was hired as emergency manager and Riley Schafer as assistant emergency manager.
Kirking has eight years of experience as the Pembina County emergency manager and is anticipated to start in Stutsman County on March 22.
Schafer is currently employed as a Stutsman County sheriff's deputy. His start date has yet to be arranged.
"We have two individuals that we think will work together well," Bergquist told the commission.
Bergquist is retiring after more than 30 years as the Stutsman County emergency manager. He had originally anticipated retiring at the end of 2020 but has extended his work for the county to help cover staff shortages.
He now anticipates his last day to be no sooner than the end of April.
