GRAND FORKS (AP) -- Grand Forks officials want to take a closer look at the operations of the city's events center.
Councilman Mike McNamara suggested the council disband the commission that runs the Alerus Center and take over the job of running the center as if it were a city department.
Other council members said they don't think they should be doing that. The council's finance committee has decided to form a task force that would take a fresh look at all aspects of the center's operations.
Council member Curt Kreun, who chairs the commission, said the landscape has changed since the events center was envisioned in the late 1990s. He said the Alerus Center never got a chance to hold hockey games, but it has strengthened its convention business.
