GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) -- The Greater Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra has hired a new musical director after a search that lasted nearly two years.
Alexander Platt of Chicago is music director of the Waukesha Symphony Orchestra in Wisconsin and the Marion Philharmonic in Indiana.
The Yale-educated Platt was chosen from among five finalists. He will start on July 1.
The Grand Forks symphony just finished its 101st season. Former music director James Hannon resigned in 2008, and more than 80 people applied for the position.
