Central Valley Health District will be giving H1N1 vaccine to Stutsman and Logan county children ages 6 months through 18 years and household contacts of children under 6 months at a clinic this week.
The clinic will run from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Jamestown High School, or until vaccine is gone.
At this clinic both FluMist and injectable vaccine will be given and nurses on staff will determine which vaccine children qualify for. FluMist is for healthy people age 2 years through 49 years.
"Many people have questions about the safety of H1N1 vaccine and especially FluMist because FluMist is a live virus," said Robin Iszler, administrator at Central Valley Health District. "FluMist does contain live virus, however, the viruses are weakened and cannot cause flu illness. Both FluMist and in-jectable 2009 H1N1 vaccine are made the same way as seasonal vaccine and are safe."
If you are sick the day of the clinic with a fever or other flu like symptoms, do not come to the school for your vaccination. Attendants will be doing health checks and turning ill people away. This is to protect those that come and especially those with high risk of complications from the flu.
