BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- A study says North Dakota insurance customers prefer a broad range of less-expensive benefits -- and they don't choose coverage for hair transplants and Viagra.
The state Insurance Department held a number of recent forums to ask small groups of people what they would include in a basic coverage plan.
Participants were given a menu of health coverage options and a budget. They decided individually what kind of coverage to buy. Then they got into groups to see what they could agree on for a group insurance plan.
Insurance Commissioner Adam Hamm says the groups favored a basic insurance plan that covered most benefits. But he says they didn't buy insurance for "lifestyle" things such as treatments for impotence, hair loss and infertility.
