FARGO, N.D. (AP) -- A senior attorney in the North Dakota Air National Guard is returning from a year of duty in Afghanistan.

The Guard says Lt. Col. Dan Bertsch, a staff judge advocate, is returning Friday afternoon from his 14th voluntary deployment in the past nine years, including three overseas.

He is to fly into the Fargo airport, where he will swear in his daughter's boyfriend, who is joining the Guard.

Bertsch deployed to Iraq in 2008 for seven months. He returned in April 2009, then left for Afghanistan two months later.
