Hoeven promotes Air Guard's role in drone mission

WASHINGTON--A proposed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act could see North Dakota playing a larger role in country's unmanned aircraft missions.

WASHINGTON-A proposed amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act could see North Dakota playing a larger role in country's unmanned aircraft missions.

Introduced by U.S. Sen. John Hoeven, R-N.D., the amendment seeks to give Air National Guard units a larger role in the Global Hawk unmanned aerial systems mission, according to a news release.

The aircraft are used by the U.S. Air Force, but Hoeven said in the release the Air National Guard, including North Dakota's unit, could provide valuable support to the Air Force.

The amendment directs the Air Force find out how feasible a partnership with the Air National Guard could be to operate and maintain the Global Hawk aircraft.
