MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A Minot man known for his generosity in giving children bicycles and backpacks with school supplies got some help this year from local firefighters.
Bob Gross holds the giveaways in memory of his late nephew DaySun Gross, who died in a car crash in 2002 at the age of 17. Over the weekend, firefighters joined forces with him to distribute more than 500 school supply backpacks.
Spokesman Ken Sisk tells the Minot Daily News that firefighters wanted to do more to help the community that was devastated by Souris River flooding this summer. Firefighters also will be distributing nearly a dozen free tickets to a Sept. 3 benefit concert at the State Fairgrounds by the Black Eyed Peas.
Gross says he hopes to have another backpack giveaway this year.
