The election for Parks and Recreation Commission went down to the wire Tuesday with the incumbents hanging on for a victory -- one by only 13 votes, the slimmest margin of victory on the ballot.

Joyce Heinrich hung on to beat Ron Olson on her way to a third term.

"If Ron would of won, fine and dandy," Heinrich said. "I've had eight wonderful years on the Park Board and I know I could give four more."

Heinrich said she will continue to work towards a dog park and studying on what to do about aquatics in the city.

"We work so well together and we have a good board," she said.

Chairman Larry Knoblich gathered the most votes with 2,628 in the unofficial tally. He has been on the commission since 1988.

"I'm thrilled about it, I'm very excited," Knoblich said. "I'm a little disappointed about some of the other battles in the election but that's America for you and tonight I'm on the good side."

In his next term, he said, he will work on Park and Recreation's involvement in the proposed Two Rivers Activity Center.

Knoblich used only two lawn signs, one in his front yard and one in front of the Press Room.

Mike Landscoot only had three lawn signs in Jamestown and was also re-elected.

"I'm very honored that I've been reelected to a third term and I hope to continue to do a good job for the city of Jamestown," Landscoot said.

He said his goals for the next term include keeping facilities up to date, keeping on budget and work on a dog park.

Challenger and former commissioner Ron Olson was gracious in defeat and thanked the 1,669 people who voted for him.

"My hat is off to Mike and Joyce and Larry," Olson said. "I knew it was going to be tough so my hat's off to them."
