Jamestown Fire Department responds to report of smoke in home Friday

No damage was reported.

JSSPN Fire calls

The Jamestown Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in a residence Friday evening, Jan. 27, said Fire Chief Jim Reuther.

The call was reported at 6:28 p.m. at 703 1st St. West.

“When the residents came home, they walked into a house full of smoke, had no idea where it was coming from,” and reported it, Reuther said.

Twenty-three firefighters with five units responded and found the smoke dissipating in the home, he said. He said cigarettes that were believed to be extinguished were being emptied into a trash can and were the apparent source of the smoke. Reuther said the fire in the trash can had extinguished itself.

There was no damage, and firefighters cleared the scene around 7:03 p.m.
