A Jamestown man was sentenced Wednesday after he was accused of fleeing police, driving off the road, injuring his passenger and leaving the scene without helping her.
Gunnar Syverson, 18, 418 Seventh Ave. NW, was convicted by jury trial of three Class A misdemeanors: fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, as well as two Class B misdemeanors, driving under suspension and minor in possession.
On Nov. 7, 2010, Syverson allegedly drove a vehicle while his license was suspended and fled police, crashing the car and seriously injuring his passenger.
Since his arrest, he served 87 days in jail and has participated in the 24/7 program which requires offenders to refrain from alcohol use and to take breath alcohol tests twice a day.
Syverson said he liked the 24/7 program.

"That seemed to really get my head clear. ..." he said.
"It's made me not even think about drinking."
Syverson said he's been working in construction and is considering joining the military.
For the B misdemeanors, Judge Thomas Merrick sentenced Syverson to serve 30 days with 30 days credit for time served. For the A misdemeanors, Syverson was sentenced to one year with all but 87 days suspended and 87 days credit for time served.
He is also to pay about $350 in fees and fines as well as about $1,800 in restitution. He is to remain on the 24/7 program throughout his unsupervised probation.
Syverson is not to possess firearms, nor is he to consume, possess or purchase any controlled substance. He is also to maintain employment.
