Jamestown Rural Fire Department fights grass and barn fire

Fire call for the Jamestown Rural Fire Department April 19 burns up to 15 acres of pasture, minor damage to a barn.

JSSPN Fire calls

The Jamestown Rural Fire Department battled a grass fire that spread to a farm building Monday afternoon, according to Rick Woehl, assistant chief of the department.

Woehl said eight units and 20 firefighters responded to 3622 78th Ave. SE, west of Jamestown, at about 3 p.m. Crews were on the scene about 30 minutes.

"It started in a farmyard then burned about 10 or 16 acres of pasture," Woehl said. "It burned a little siding on the barn but we got that out quickly."

Woehl said the fire was a reminder that fire conditions are still dangerous.

"Grass fires are again a possibility," he said. "That little bit of rain last week didn't last long."
